UK psychedelic outfit Common Saints drop latest Equinox EP, following the Spring equinox and coinciding with peak summer time. Going from strength to strength since 2020, Common Saints gives us yet another beautiful reminder of why psychedelic soul music will never die.
Charlie J Perry (mastermind behind Common Saints)
Studio concept project Common Saints has been busy rising the psychedelic ranks for the past 5 years, now amassing close to 2 million monthly Spotify listeners – and as we reach peak summertime, have they hit their peak?
That’s hard to say without looking into the future, but we can say Common Saints have delivered a beautifully whimsical EP titled Equinox, just as we hit the summer solstice in the UK, and this title track is as irresistible as they come.
A perfectly EQed synth comes in on a gradient to wonderfully groovy bass, ethereal lead guitar, and a bold drum beat; with production perfection in effect from the very beginning.
By the time project mastermind Charlie J Perry hits his high notes I’m completely encapsulated and engrossed by this warm psychedelic gem. I feel as if I’m transported into a dream world as piano chords crescendo and twinkling starry effects drop me starry-eyed head-first into my imagination. A slow fluttering drum beat keeps the whole thing together throughout.
As the track ends and the world comes back into focus, I feel I now understand why Common Saints have been able to build such a huge Spotify following in a relatively short time, while knowing that I will most likely be part of that following going forward.
If you’re looking to smoke a bit of something special to celebrate these peak summer afternoons, title track ‘Equinox’ from the latest Common Saints EP is the track to do it to. Check it out and let us know what you think below!
